Freshmen:  Discovering Your Passions

Everyone’s heard it… “now everything counts!”  Indeed, this is the year that grades begin to count towards high school credits and graduation, and that’s actually one reason why we don’t talk about college very much at this point.  There are enough things to worry about!  But, far more important than trying to decide what college you want to attend four years from now is discovering what you are passionate about.  Freshman year is a great time to explore a wide variety of activities and see what makes you excited.  Try out for a school play, write for the newspaper, get involved with community service, play a sport, join the band – spend your time doing things that make you want to be involved.  If you find out that the school paper is really not your thing, go find something else that is.  Not only will you be a better candidate for colleges if you find an activity that you really love, you’ll have a better time while still here at Seabury.
