College News 3-7-03Aloha, Ms. Imelda Reyes of University of Hawaii, Manoa will be on our campus March 14, 10am, to give an orientation to admitted students. Please meet in the Hawaiiana Room of the library. Chaminade University is hosting the "Chaminade Experience" on March 29. The cost is $10 and includes all meals. The Pacific Rim Bible College, located in Honolulu, is hosting an open house on March 14. Hawaii Pacific University will be hosting an open house on March 29. The Hawaii State Jr. Golf Association is sponsoring a college workshop on March 16 from 10am-12pm at the Cameron Center. The workshop is not only targeted at athletes or golfers but to all college bound stundents. The cost is $5 and is free for members of the HSJGA. In observance of "National Sleep Awareness Week" the Maui Memorial Medical Center is opening their doors for the general public to see their state-of-the-art facility. College News 2-19-03Juniors: We recommend that you sign up for the SAT I given at Seabury Hall on April 5 by February 28 to avoid a late fee. Go to www.collegeboard.com and be sure to write down your password! We also recommend that you take SAT II's on May 3 and/or June 7. Register by March 28/May 2 for these test. Reminder: only list Seabury Hall as a choice for Maui. There are a number of summer brochures in the office. Make plans now for a rewarding experience. The Nature Conservancy has two openings for a summer internship. Pick up an application packet at the Maui Field Office, Pukalani Square Center. Seniors: Scholarships are coming in. Please note the attached spreadsheet (thanks to Mrs. Ajmani). College News 1-24-03Aloha, Seniors: A reminder that Paul Levenson will be here for a financial aid workshop, Jan. 28, 6:30 in the cafeteria. If you bring your tax information with you, he will help you fill in the FAFSA form. Make sure you have requested your PIN number. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov Juniors: The Junior Information Night is Feb. 6, 6:30 in the PAC. All juniors and parents are expected to attend. Hawaii Pacific is having an informational session on Maui on Tuesday, February 4th. It will be at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center from 6-8 pm. I really encourage students and their parents to attend. There are some outstanding scholarship opportunities! Summer? I am receiving brochures about great summer programs! College News 10-18-02University of Hawaii, Manoa, is in the process of moving the Honors Program toward an Honors College. James Caron, the Director of this new initiative will be visiting our campus in the spring. If you have questions before that time, please email him at honors@hawaii.edu. Remember, several colleges require the CSS Profile as part of the financial aid application. You can file online at www.collegeboard.com. The FAFSA forms will not be in until December, but go ahead and begin the Profile if your school requires it. Remember, it takes 3-5 weeks when you send your SAT scores. Don't wait too late! The University of Pennsylvania is hosting an information session in Honolulu, Monday, Oct. 21 at 7:30pm at the Sheraton Waikiki. All of you who attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, meeting came away with the same impression: APPLY NOW!! They still use a rolling admission policy, and you will hear back very soon. Then you have the luxury of waiting until May 1 to sign on the dotted line and see what offers you have from other schools. This is usually the case for any state university (except for California). If you are planning to apply to a state university, the sooner the better, especially for housing options. New info so far: The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awards 250 college scholarships each year. The application process is now online at www.coca-colascholars.org. The deadline is October 31.
