Wow – the countdown is on for the seniors! Congratulations to all of you – what an amazing group! A reminder: I will be attending the Fitz-Williams conference in New Hampshire. Although I am delighted to represent Seabury Hall at this prestigious conference, I will sadly miss graduation. My last day in the office will be on Friday, May 19. I will be back to mail off all your final transcripts by June 15! Make sure you leave any forms in my mailbox.

Hawaii Future Physicians Symposium & Scholarship, September 23, 2006, 9am-12noon (registration begins at 8:30am)
Location: 3660 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816. This symposium is sponsored by John Olkowski, MD. All students are invited to submit an essay of 100 words or less describing why they want to be a doctor. An award of $500 will be presented to the student who submits the essay which is deemed the best by a panel of judges. The deadline to submit an essay is September 8, 2006 and the winner will be announced on September 23, 2006.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago will be doing a presentation on Wednesday, 12/7, in the AP ART room at 11:40am.
WOW! The first semester is drawing to a close. Seniors are completing their applications and Juniors – I am looking forward to working with you next semester. You will see “College Counseling Class” on your schedule for next semester. We will meet in the college counseling office only one day a week, Thursday or Friday, depending on your block. We will meet for the 3rd quarter only and we will have FUN!!
Seniors (and Juniors if you want to get early information) – mark your calendar for January 18, 6pm in the cafeteria, for a presentation by Paul Levenson, on how to prepare the FAFSA. Seniors: Great job on the November 1 deadline! Now we look forward to the November 15 deadline!
Again, please check each college’s financial aid portion of their web site and make sure you are filing forms by the due date. Remember, every school will want the FAFSA, the government form. You cannot fill this out until after January 1. You will need a PIN (personal identification number) and one parent will need a PIN as well. Apply now for your PIN numbers at www.pin.ed.gov and WRITE THEM DOWN! You will use this number for the entire time you are in college!
The other forms might include the CSS Profile which is found at www.collegboard.com and/or a separate form specific for each school.

Seniors: You need to read the financial aid portion of each college’s web site to make sure you are filing all the forms needed. Every college you apply to will want the FAFSA, the government form, which cannot be filed until January. We will host an evening presentation in January to walk us through this form. However, some colleges also want the CSS Profile which is found at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp. Part 1 of the Profile is usually due in October. There are links to national scholarships as well. You are responsible for filing these forms on time! Keep on top of these deadlines! I suggest you also check each college’s web site for additional scholarships that you might apply for. The Seabury Hall web site has more information on local scholarships http://www.seaburyhall.org/college/financialaid.html. As I receive notification of scholarships, I will forward them to you.
The WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) is a program that offers reduced tuition at selected public colleges and university in the Western Region. Requirements are different for each campus. Please check out the web site: www.wiche.edu/sep
Juniors: The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 12. This will automatically enter you in the National Merit Competition.
