GPS Lesson

Navigation:

1. Turn the power on. Wait for the unit to find the satellites. This may take a few minutes. While waiting, locate the page button on the right and the up/down arrow buttons and enter button on the left. You will need to use all of these in this lesson.
2. Press the page button until you get to the MENU.
3. Press the down button to waypoints. Press enter.
4. 0-9 will be highlighted. Press enter. 001 will be highlighted. This is the waypoint for a specific site that you will navigate and find. Press enter.
5. Use the up/down arrow button until GOTO is highlighted. Press enter.
6. You will now see a compass with an arrow. The arrow will direct you to the site. Walk slowly. If the arrow points to the left, turn left. If it points to the right, turn right. If it is pointing straight ahead, move straight ahead. These sites are large landmarks so you will know when you reach them. Good luck!

Marking Points:

1. Now it is your turn to find some sites and mark the points.
2. When you reach each of the following locations, follow the directions below to record longitude (W or E), latitude (N or S) and elevation.

Marking a Point:

1. Press the page button until you reach the MENU screen.
2. Use the up/down buttons to highlight MARK. Press enter.
3. You will see a man with a flag asking you if you want to mark this point. OK should be highlighted. Press enter.
4. Record the Longitude (W or E), Latitude (N or S), and elevation from the bottom of the screen.
5. Press the page button, which will take you back to the MENU screen. Repeat for each location.
