Welcome, US History students,
to your Fall, 2004 research project!
    Your tasks:

  1. FIND BACKGROUND INFORMATION.
Please consult the Encyclopedia Britannica for your specific movement or individual. Attach a copy of the article to your work.

  2. CONDUCT YOUR PRELIMINARY RESEARCH, using the resources and keyword list outlined below.

  3. FORMULATE YOUR THESIS.
You must complete and hand in the Thesis Statement & Sources Sheet.

Research requirements:

6-8 sources, including:
  • 4 primary sources
  • at least 1 source from each of the following:

    • EBSCO
    • American Memory
    • An .edu site
(adding site:.edu to your search works in both YAHOO and Google)
    • Annals of America in our library
(Look in vols. 4-9, on the reserve shelf of our library, for documents authored by your historical figure. Numbers refer to document numbers, not page numbers.)
    • A .gov site (either Google Uncle Sam or add site:.gov to your YAHOO or Google) search.

Use NetTrekker, a search engine specifically for education that we subscribe to, for excellent sites reviewed by educators.

Some of the keywords you can add to your searches to ferret out primary sources include:

primary sources
historical documents
letters
speeches
lectures
essays
addresses
diary
archives
testimony
or variations of these words and phrases
Use Chicago Style for your Works Cited.
Good luck!
