  • Encyclopedia Britannica
    • The 2002 print version (in our library)
  • The 2003 World Book Encyclopedia, available in our library
  • Columbia Encyclopedia. 6th ed, 2001. A reputable, one-volume encyclopedia.
  • Encarta -- an abridged version.
  • World Book Encyclopedia in print and on CD (both in library)
The Britannica in print is an excellent source for formulating your thesis statements. Consult the library's 2002 edition, in the reference area.

  1. The best way to access the Britannica's contents is to consult the separate two-volume index(A-K) and (L-Z). The index has topic outlines, which refer to the appropriate:

    Volume number:page:and column.
    e.g., 18:128:1b

  2. Many times, the author's initials are at the end of every article. So, you must consult another separate volume, the Propaedia, to find the author's full name.

  3. For annotated bibliographies:
More often than not, there is a bibliography located at the end of the article or section. You might choose to include these reputable sources in your annotated bibliography.
