General
  • EBSCO HOST, a subscription database, made available to Hawaii residents by the Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS). Using Seabury's public library card on campus, your own card (preferable), or a public library terminal, you can view the full-text articles online, print them out, save them to disk, or download the articles to your e-mail account. See Ms. Lindsay for more information about this.

Databases of special interest to us are:

    • MasterFILE Premier provides full text for over 1,900 periodicals covering nearly all subjects.
    • Newspaper Source - contains full text for regional U. S. newspaper, international newspapers, newswires, and newspaper columns, and indexing for national newspapers.

    • MAS Ultra - School Edition - provides full text for over 515 general interest and current events magazines

  • FindArticles.com. Full-text of generally more sophisticated articles published in over 300 magazines and journals dating from 1998. You can view publications by nine subjects, or search individual periodicals by name a-z, as well as use the search box. A cooperative venture of LookSmart and the Gale Group.

Hints for searching in FindArticles.com (Boolean search):

    • Use quotation marks for phrases
    • Use + in front of any keyword or phrase that must be included. e.g., +"dim sum" +recipe
    • Use - in front of any keyword or phrase that must be excluded.e.g., +"dim sum" +recipe -restaurant Important note: there should be no space between + or - and your phrase or keyword.

  • Encyclopedia Britannica Online. This limited version of the Britannica print edition still suggests excellent magazine articles (in addition to best web sites on a topic). The library owns the 2002 print version of this scholarly encyclopedia.

  • National Geographic Magazine Index. Indexes the entire collection, plus other publications.

The actual magazines, from 1960 to the present, are available in our library. We also have the entire collection on CD, thanks to our history department. See Ms. Lindsay for more information.
