Chromoplasts function as giving flowers and fruits color. The reason they have colors is to attract creatures such as insects or people so that either seeds from the fruitcan be spread or inorder to polinate the flower. The color comes from carotenoid rather than chlorophyll as in chlroplasts. From flowers to fruit this carotenoid makes for an attractive fun goody given off by the plant. On the left is a picture which shows the size of a chlorplast as compared to a chromoplast. They are much smaller and not quite as interesting except for the nice colors they give flowers and fruits. Their colors range from brown to yellow, including red and orange. The actual chemical functions of this organelle are yet to be determined, making for sort of a mystery organelle.
