Leucoplasts are the least interesting of the plastids, but have the exciting function of starch storage centers. This starch can later be used when needed by the plant cell and the mitochondria will use it as fuel to give the cell energy. Luecoplasts are found in cells such as the roots where light does not reach them, and when the sun does come into contact with them, they transform in cholorplasts. Chlorophyll turns the luecoplasts green and they take up photosynthesis, the main characteristic of chloroplasts. One type of Luecoplasts are amyloplasts which are also colorless, but function as the gravity sensors for the roots making sure they go under ground to ensur the life of the plant.
