These organelles are the sites of cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is the process of creating adenosine triphosphate. Adenosine triphosphate, otherwise known as ATP, is the energy that is released into cells allowing the cell to function. ATP is formed by obtaining energy from sugars, fats, oxygen, and other substances that might enter the cell.
