Head Search Update #3

December 21, 2018

Dear Seabury Hall Community,

On behalf of the Seabury Hall Board of Trustees, I am thrilled to announce that Maureen Madden will be Seabury Hall’s next Head of School beginning July 1, 2019. Please join me in welcoming Maureen and her husband Bruce to the Seabury Hall `ohana.

The Board and I are grateful to the entire Seabury Hall community for playing a crucial role in this process. We benefited from the thoughtful feedback of administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students and alumni who took the time to meet with our three finalists. Your commitment and input were essential to the Board’s deliberations and we were heartened by the overwhelming level of support that Maureen received.

The six-month search process for a Head of School began with the support of consultants Tom Olverson and Doreen Oleson from RG 175. (Tom was the Head of School at Seabury Hall in the late 80’s and 90’s.) They both played a vital role in supporting the Board by gathering a pool of highly-qualified candidates and helped us to ensure full community participation.

During the Board’s extensive review and evaluation process, it became evident to us that Maureen truly understands Seabury Hall’s core values. We believe she possesses the vision and leadership skills to guide Seabury Hall forward into the next phase of its evolution. She earned the enthusiastic support of the Search Committee and the Board voted unanimously in favor of her appointment.

Maureen brings a wealth of experience in teaching and management of successful schools, both public and private. She is an exceptional educator and administrator. Her impeccable teaching credentials and experience in administration are inspired by a true and deep love of learning and teaching. Her commitment to growing a diverse learning community emphasizes the best in current educational practices and college preparation. This will be a major asset as we continue Seabury Hall’s mission to develop and prepare students for college and life beyond.

Prior to her current role as the Head of School at the American School of Milan, where she has been since 2010, Maureen was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and Principal at Toms River High School East in Ocean County, New Jersey. She was a teacher for over 20 years, and is certified as an instructor, school principal and superintendent. She has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in School Administration.

Maureen is excited and says, “My husband and I were so touched by the warm and caring people that we met at Seabury Hall, all of whom have such a passion to make this school the best it can be for every student. When the members of the community believe in the school's mission for their children the possibilities for the future are incredible!  So delighted to be joining the Seabury Hall community!”

I want to express my gratitude to Paul Wenninger for serving as our 2018-19 Interim Head of School to guide Seabury Hall; I also look forward to sharing more specific transition plans for Maureen later this school year. For now, let us all go into this season of gratitude, goodwill and new beginnings secure in the knowledge that Maureen will lead and inspire Seabury Hall in its college preparatory mission for our outstanding students.
