Seabury’s annual Holiday Performing Arts Concert, a perennial sell-out, features all levels of our dance program, along with music and drama guest performances.
For two nights only in Seabury’s award-winning ‘A’ali’ikūhonua Creative Arts Center, enjoy complimentary desserts and beverages in the lobby and celebrate the performing arts with its most fierce supporters – our students!
Director of Dance David Ward is celebrating the Performing Arts Department’s 30th anniversary with his Company dancers by restaging Common Change, the very first Modern piece he did at Seabury. In three movements, the piece moves from the beginnings of life on the cellular level, through the struggles humans face with each other in society, to end in a rising from the ashes to find grace, balance, and harmony.
“Although its 30 years old,” says Ward, its issues are current -- and perhaps even more relevant today.”
Guest artist Hallie Hunt Armato, co-founder and artistic director of Adaptations Dance Theater, has set a contemporary take on tango on the Company.
“Though not technically a tango, the energy, drive, and pulse of the piece is very dynamic,” says Ward. “ I’ve been impressed with how Hallie’s constructed the piece and worked with the girls. It’s been a great experience for them.“
For Level C, guest artist Yezzi, artistic director of PUreMOTIONz Dance, has set a hip-hop-inspired piece to music by Imagine Dragons -- and David Ward has set a piece for Level C to music from Crazy Rich Asians.
Choreographer Andre Morissette teams up with Band Director Phil Proctor to make a live music collaboration between Proctor’s Percussion students and Morissette’s Level B dancers.
“I am interested in bringing together different disciplines,” says Morissette, “to create unusual artistic experiences.”
Ballet teacher Vanessa Cerrito combines Ballet I & II in Prisms, set to the music of Ludovico Einaudi, and brings back a ballet set to Mozart’s Requiem for Ballet III.
In Drama, we reprise several numbers from our recent musical, Anything Goes by Cole Porter. “Following the great success of the show, we wanted to give these kids one more opportunity to showcase their talents,” says Ward.
Demand for seats runs high for this one weekend only affair -- so reservations are recommended. Purchase online at seaburyhall.org
