We are back with another spectacular festival of dance from Maui’s most prominent dance-makers, educators, and young performers!

“It’s been a dream of mine for years,” says Seabury Hall Dance director David Ward, “to bring youth groups together on a common ground to share our art and build networks.”

Now in its third rendition, Common Ground continues to reach beyond our island with the return of a prominent youth-based dance group from the West Coast. Bay Area’s Fusion Dance is under the direction of founders Tito and Meghan Reyes.

Along with this mainland group -- and the performers of Halua Wehiwehi O Leilehua and PUReMOTIONz Dance, Common Ground’s past participants are all excited to return.

Alexander Academy of Performing Arts, Maui Academy of Performing Arts, Maui Bboy Alex "Kid Karma" Hutaff-Bautista, and Zenshin Daiko are all back with their Seabury Hall hosts -- who will bring dramatic modern dance and contemporary ballet inspired pieces to the mix.

“Everyone had such a great experience in our first two festivals,” says Ward. “They value not only the exposure but the chance for students to meet and dance with other students from around the island.”

“One of the highlights for me in the past festivals backstage was seeing the kids huddled in the wings watching with such enthusiasm other kids perform. For kids to see the diversity of material and the quality of expertise on this small island, it’s inspirational.”
